Dear all, what is the proper method of keeping excess dressing product? Put it back to the original package and tape the ends using a micropore? How soon later should we finish using the product?

I work part time in a wound clinic and they keep "opened dressings" without dating them,, Pretty much indefinitely..til they are gone. They are on a counter where the everyday supplies ie non sterile gauze, sterile cotton tipped applicators, skin prep etc are kept. I personally give the patient {when I work} any unused dressing to take home if that is what they will be prescribed, otherwise,, I feel the dressings should be dated when opened... Where are they being stored? Are they being contaminated by "dirty gloves" between patients?" I personally would like them being disposed of at the end of the Day... I sure wouldn't want a dressing used on myself or loved one that has been exposed to other patients and left out,,, I'm thinking MRSA, VRE, HIV, C-diff
