I don't know where you are located, but check with your local DME companies. Sometimes they have programs that are little or no cost. The other thing you can do is check with your institution, Medline has a great woundcare program and they offer a certification program. We sent a few our nurse's from our home in TN and they certified all of them. Be careful of the online programs, make sure they are credentialed. There are some great programs out there! Best of luck!

Permalink Reply by Michelle D. Voss Nanney RN/PLNC on August 22, 2011 at 7:19pm Ann, you might try Vocational Rehab...(it's not that kind of rehab!) But, sometimes for the unemployed they will assist you with funding to get extra education. Online programs like the one offered on WoundTalk are "safe" programs, but you are right there are some out there that aren't. Some things to look for...is the site offered by "experts" in the field, are they credentialed by an official agency and what do you have to do to stay certified? I went to a Legal Nurse Consultant program and found out the re-certification was nothing more than paying my fee, that isn't a good option! WoundEducators.com is a good choice and they will make sure you have the training that you need to be good at your chosen field but also keep up with the current treatment plans.
Good Luck and I hope it all works out!
