Corazan recently posted the following question.  If anyone has recommendations for helping with non-compliance, please post.

"I have a patient who had 2 surgeries on her right ankle from debridement to vein ligation and stripping. She had this wound for almost 3 years now. We see patient for wound care 3 x a week. We cleansed it with wound cleanser and apply restore silver secure with flex 3. When patient doesn't keep her appt for wound care  it get worst. Please advise. Thank you."

I completely understand the problem that you are having with your patient.  Non-compliance is one of the most challenging and frustrating problems to resolve.  I have had many patient's who either got worse or did not heal do to non-compliance.  What I found helpful was to educate the patient on the etiology of the wound and the dangers for non-compliance. I also encourage the patient to look at the wound.  Sometimes this simple step will help the patient to "connect" to the wound, realize that it is a part of them, and take responsibility.  Ultimately it is the patient's decision to choose.
