I recently became Wound Care Certified and my reason for pursuing it was so I can demonstrate the extent of my knowledge of wound care and portray myself to my colleagues as a reliable resource, as evidenced by my initiative to pursue such certification.
Interestingly, I am not CWS (buthave tremendous respect for those who are). I have a Board certification in clinical electrophysiology which allows me to perform and interpret nerve conduction and electromyography studies. At the same time, I do thoroughly enjoy wound care. I usually get invloved for those special procedures such as total contact casts, application of negative pressure dressings in the OR... I guess because I have more time on my hands...
I am a LPN/WCC. I went for my certification because I simply love my job, love working with wounds-fascinating!! I love to learn things, and wound care is ever-evolving, which makes it such a wonderful fit for me!
I'm with you there girl. I don't like being in a job where nothing is going on and things pretty much remain the same. I love the fact that wound care is ever evolving and we can provide input as to what is the BEST evidence-based practices out there to heal wounds. It's a wonderful thing.
I totally agree. I am presently working on my WOCN and absolutely love love love what I do. I have definitely found my purpose until God changes the plan. We have the opportunity to CHANGE LIVES. We do so much more than wound healing which is alone awesome. I am lucky enough to work for a Magnet facility that values my input and facilitates the ongoing education that the wound world provides. We get to be leaders and pioneers for a young specialty.
I am not certified yet, but I'm working on it! I hope to get my CWS then my WOCN. I'm pursuing this because I love wound care
I became wound care certified in Feb of 2009 because I was told I had to do so to keep my "float" position. I was involved in many wound care teams prior so it wasn't shocking to me - yet the studying for the exam was very stressful as it seemed daily I became more aware of how much there is to know! I passed and have been so grateful to my workplace for "making" me become certified - I can't believe all the doors that opened up when this happened!
