Good Morning! I was wondering how everyone likes to learn wound care. Do you like to contact a wound care nurse? Do you like wound care classes? Or, do you prefer to learn wound care "hands on" on the job with a treatment or wound care nurse?
I personally like working with a treatment or wound care nurse on the job. I feel like there is no one classification or one way to do wound care. Every patient is different and every wound is different according to many factors. Patients disease process, age, nutritional status, etc. I like to try something that is recommended and then trouble shoot over the course of the healing period to see what works. Yes, I do like classes for the basics or how to use a new product. But ultimately, I like learning wounds right out there in the trenches. Everyone is different so join in and let us know your favorite way to learn wound care.

I agree personally that learning about wounds on the job is a great way to learn about wounds. I learned through working with different patient populations what works for which wounds and disease processes. I always tell my patients when they ask the question "how long will this take to heal and why is it not healing," I tell them there is no one textbook answer to wounds. We know the basics from wound education, but ultimately there are so many factors involved and it is basically trial and error.
Thanks so much for sharing with us!
