Kimberly replied to Laura Spadafora's discussion New RN needs advice, please!
"Laura - You are most welcome. And, by no means should you fret the chronological age thing. First, there are a lot of things that living life teaches you that becomes invaluable to a nurse that they don't really teach you in nursing school,…"

Kimberly replied to Laura Spadafora's discussion New RN needs advice, please!
"Laura - Welcome to the world of Nursing. As for suggested reading materials, I can offer two very good options in my opinion. Forgive the reference but, if you are familiar with the book series regardless of subject matter, "_____ for…"

"While serving as a Wound Care Coordinator for a hospital, I also performed the duties of Infection Control Nurse, as the two were related in the minds of that administration. After doing the dual duty for a few months, I saw their point. I learned…"

Kimberly replied to WoundTalk's discussion What do you think is worse...getting too close to patients or treating a patient like a number and not a person?
"To amend my recent comment, I would like to add: that it is possible to relate personally with your patient without getting personally/intimately involved with your patient. I have managed it for years. It has been beneficial to my patients in that…"

Kimberly replied to WoundTalk's discussion What do you think is worse...getting too close to patients or treating a patient like a number and not a person?
"I believe in that it is utterly shameful that we are taught (or at least I was) in nursing school to "never get personal with your patients". I believe, and know from experience that it is very possible to be friendly & personal with…"

At present I am unemployed. In the course of the past 2.5 years, I have held only positions as a Wound Specialist within an acute care hospital, a rehab facility, and finally an LTACH. All three of these facilities suffered downsizing events. As a result, I was laid off. Most recently the LTACH actually closed it's doors permanently.  So, if anyone out there knows of any wound care positions in the Houston, Texas area, please let me know. Thanks.
