Hi Kim:  I LOVE honey.  Not a big fan of santyl, as I could probably retire before it debrides anything.  Autolytic debridement, depending on the wound of course is always the best choice.  Often times the honey and a DRY gauze…

Beth:  That's a great idea.  Haven't used hydroferra blue.  Actually have a patient that might benefit from this modality.  Is it expensive?

Nancy.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with flagyl in a wound bed.  You can not however, just crush it and use it in a wound bed.  I just came back from conference and in more than one class, including legal, it was strongly…

Skin Tear - Cat 2B?  Hard to tell without a moist swab to roll that skin out, but it doesn't look like we could get close enough to steri-strip.  Cleanse gently with NSS.  Apply petrolatum to wound edges.  Skin prep to…

Just make sure that you are using flagyl designed for wound beds.  (Metrogel.. etc).  It is unacceptable to crush flagyl and place in a wound bed.  It is off-label use and yet I see hear of people doing this.  Careful folks..…

Off loading is always the best answer, I do believe.  By this I mean truly "floating" the heels.  I usually roll the foot of the pressure redistribution air mattress overlay under and it is usually enough to float heels off the…

To me this looks like a mixed ulcer.  Irregular borders yes, slough yes.. but not a lot of drainage and the peri-wound looks shiny and hairless.  Can't see the toenails, but I am betting they are thick and yellow.  I would…

I use wound gel under a mepitel non-adherent protective dressing.  It can be left in place for a week and wound gel reapplied with each dressing change.  Less painful for the patient when removing the foam and does not impede granulation.…

I had a question on our forum that I was wondering if you could address regarding "slough and debridement."  Since you are Wound Care Certified and you have given us some great tips in previous discussions, I was wondering if you could give us some feed back on this one.  Here is the link:
